Call From Lieutenant Brown Is A Scam

The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office has received multiple reports from members of our community being targeted by the ongoing phone scam attempting to elicit money.

This phone scam has resurfaced and members of the community are receiving calls from an individual who identifies as a "Lieutenant Brown" with the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office and states that the victim has a bench warrant and needs to wire money immediately.

We are reminding the community that MCSO does not conduct matters concerning warrant service or payment of fines via phone and will not request a wire transfer of funds.

If you are contacted by "Lieutenant Brown" or someone claiming to be a member of the Sheriff's Office who is requesting a wire transfer, DO NOT SEND MONEY and DO NOT PROVIDE PERSONAL INFORMATION.

You can help our detectives by getting as much information as possible:

  • Time and date of the call
  • Contact number of the person calling
  • Name used by the person calling
  • Any other details that may assist detectives.

Immediately after hanging up the phone, please call our Tip Line at (503) 988-0560 to provide the information to our detectives.

 Please help us spread this message and keep our community safe: If you, or someone you know, is contacted by a person claiming to be a member of MCSO and is requesting a wire transfer or mentions a bench warrant, please do not fall victim to this recurring phone scam; do not send money and do not provide personal information to the caller.
