On Thursday, October 12 at approximately 7:20 am, Battle Ground police officers were dispatched to SE Commerce Ave and SE 13th St for a report of a Hit and Run involving a pedestrian. The reporting party told 9-1-1 dispatchers that he had been flagged down by a juvenile male who told him he had been hit by a car.
Upon arrival, police officers made contact with the 14-year-old victim who was being attended to by Fire District 3 rescue personnel. The victim reported that he had missed the school bus in front of his residence located on NE 167th Ave and decided to walk to school traveling west on NE 199th St (known as Eaton Blvd in Battle Ground city limits) on the north side of the road, going the same direction as traffic.
He reported that while he was walking, he was struck from behind by a vehicle. The impact, he said, threw him into the air and he landed in tall grass on the north side of the roadway. It is estimated that he was struck near the 2100 block of Eaton Ave.
He managed to make his way to SE Commerce Ave and SE 13th St where he sought help from a passing motorist. The victim was transported to the hospital by ambulance. He sustained a broken left ankle and a dislocated left elbow.
Police are seeking information from the public or potential witnesses to help identify the vehicle involved. At the time of the incident, estimated to have occurred between 7:00 and 7:15 am, lighting would have been transitioning from dark to dawn. The victim was wearing dark-colored clothing. He described the car that hit him as possibly a brown or gray SUV. The vehicle would likely have damage to the front, passenger side fender and the passenger mirror.
