Breast Cancer Awareness Month brings free screenings to Portland on Saturday.
Susan G. Komen 2017 Worship in Pink Health Fair is to bring awareness of the importance of getting screened to communities of color.
Andy Asato, with Susan G. Komen, says women of color face health disparities when it comes to breast cancer. Asato says there's a higher late-stage of diagnosis in women of color, and for them, that's unacceptable.
Komen is trying to create greater awareness so that women and their families are encouraged to get screened early and often so cancer can be detected at an earlier stage. Doing so provides more opportunities for targeted treatments that can save lives.
The Health Matters Health Fair is Saturday, October 7th at the Marantha Church, 4222 NE 12th Avenue in Portland. There will be activities for kids, food, live music and health resources at the event. Tuality Mobile Mammography Van will be onsite to provide scheduled mammograms from 9 am until 3 pm.
To schedule for a mammogram, you can register online at komenoregon.org or call 503-552-9160.
