I-5 drivers faced two closures Monday afternoon.

I-5 southbound was closed when a semi caught fire between I-205 and Wilsonville. The burned out wreck of the semi’s cab was in the center lane of the freeway. The fuel tanks ruptured spilling 150 gallons of diesel. Hazardous Materials crews with Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue responded to keep the diesel from flowing into storm drains and to transfer the remaining diesel into temporary tanks.

On I-5 in Washington State near milepost 22 a grass fire in the median closed I-5 in both directions. One lane of traffic was eventually opened as fire crews worked to put out the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
