Eagle Creek Fire Grows 1,000 Acres

Weather has helped firefighters who are battling the Eagle Creek Fire in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area.

Cooler temperatures, mostly calm winds and higher humidity over the weekend gave crews an opportunity to strengthen fire lines.

Burnouts were successful near Cascade Locks. Containment lines were strengthened at the West end of the fire near Corbett.

East winds on Monday and Tuesday will test the fire lines.

Evacuation orders remain the same.

Cooler weather from Wednesday through the end of the week should keep the fire from growing significantly.
