A 29-year-old man from Chicago was reported missing Tuesday afternoon at Ecola State Park. He was hiking with his girlfriend when they became separated.
Search and Rescue teams spent the night looking for the man.
They called for aircract support from the Coast Guard, but smoke and visibility problems prevented them from flying until Wednesday morning.
They found the man 200 - 300 feet down a steep cliff. He was 600 feet above the ocean.
They pulled the man from the cliff into the helicopter.
“The man told us that he attempted to climb up the cliff three times, but fell each time,” said Lt. Patrick Wright, pilot of the rescue helicopter.
