Portland Public Schools Monitors Unhealthy Weather

The Portland Public School District is preparing for possible unhealthy conditions next week.

The district released the following statement:

Dear PPS Families:

The safety of your students is always our foremost concern. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has issued a Heat Advisory for Portland Saturday afternoon through Tuesday evening. It’s possible that hot weather could cause unsafe or unhealthy conditions in PPS classrooms. We will be monitoring the weather conditions throughout the weekend and are prepared to implement a two-hour early release plan if conditions are unsafe for students and staff in our buildings on Tuesday, Sept. 5. Please check district websites and be alert for a District message on Monday, Sept. 4.

We hope all you enjoy the last long weekend of the summer – and that you drink plenty of water. Attached are links to safety tips on how to stay safe during excessive heat.
