State Senator Jackie Winters (R-Salem) announces she has cancer. Winters released the following statement:
"It is an honor and privilege to serve the citizens of Senate District 10 and I look forward to continuing to serve our community. I have always been open and transparent throughout my career and need to share some news with you about my health.
Near the end of the 2017 session I developed a cough that wouldn't quit and I decided I should have it checked out just to be safe. After a few tests, the results showed I had developed a small cancerous tumor in my right lung. With further testing, it was determined that the tumor is localized and curable. I have already begun treatment and have responded very well. I am very grateful for my doctors who are doing a tremendous job.
I feel confident I will overcome this health issue and have always appreciated your support, good thoughts, and prayers.
I will continue to serve as your state senator working on the issues important to all of us and plan on seeking re-election in 2018."
