Man Arrested With High Capacity Gun Magazine

A man armed with a handgun and a 30 round magazine was arrested in North Portland Thursday afternoon.

At 2:32 p.m., North Precinct and Gang Enforcement Team officers responded to North Albina Avenue and North Killingsworth Street on the report of a person with a gun.

As officers responded to the area, Portland Community College (PCC) security officers provided a description of the armed suspect and his firearm. PCC security officers continued to provide police officers with the location and behavior of the suspect until officers were able to observe the man in person.

Officers devised a plan to safely contact the suspect and take him into custody. Near the intersection of North Kerby Avenue and North Rosa Parks Way, Gang Enforcement Team officers contacted the armed subject. The subject cooperated with officers and he was taken into custody. Officers located a 9mm handgun and 30-round magazine (photograph) in the suspect's pockets.

The suspect, 23-year-old Traemon P. Franklin, was booked into Multnomah County Jail on a charge of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.
