Tree Brings Down Power Line, Kills Dog

Tuesday morning crews from Banks Fire, along with fire crews from the Oregon Department of Forestry, responded to a brush fire on NW Killin Road in Banks. The fire was quickly contained by arriving crews.

The fire, which burned a patch of weeds and underbrush roughly 10 feet wide by 30 feet long along the side of the road, was caused by the wind knocking out the top half of a dead tree that fell on the power line.

No injuries were sustained by either the responding crews nor the homeowners. However, the family dog was electrocuted by the downed power line.

As is standard procedure, fire crews waited for the arrival of PGE workers to safely cut the power before fire crews continued mopping up the remaining hot spots that were still smoldering.

Banks Fire would like to remind everyone of just how dangerous downed power lines are and to not go near them if you spot a line that is down. Stay clear from any downed lines or power poles and call 9-1-1.
