Shooting Suspect Arrested In Portland

Portland Police were called to North Haight Avenue near Dekum around 6:40 p.m. Friday on a report of a disturbance and a shooting.

A caller to 9-1-1 reported that a gunshot victim arrived at their home.

Officers arrived and established a perimeter around the area where the suspect was last seen, while additional officers responded to the 6800 block of North Haight Avenue to render assistance to the victim.

Officers located the victim in a home in the 6800 block of North Avenue and applied a tourniquet. Because the suspect was still at large at the time, an ambulance was staged in a safe area away from the active police investigation. Officers assisted the man to a waiting ambulance at which time he was transported to an area hospital with what is initially being reported as a non-life-threatening injury.

As officers made contact with occupants of the residence in the 6900 block of North Haight Avenue, the suspect surrendered to police. 41-year-old Michael Whitmore was taken into custody and a gun was recovered at the location. An additional person was taken into custody in relation to the disturbance.
