Water Main Break Causes Discolored Water In Wilsonville

The City of Wilsonville responded to a fire-system water-main pipeline break on private property near the intersection of Boberg Rd. and Barber St. on the night of Monday, July 24, which resulted in a limited area in the vicinity of the rupture receiving discolored water.

The water is safe to use and drink; residents and businesses that notice a rust-colored hue to the water should run the cold water for a few minutes to clear-out discolored water. Residents should verify that the water runs clear before doing laundry, as discolored water may stain light-colored clothing.

Due to the amount of water moving through the pipe during the break, iron deposits are knocked loose from the walls of the water pipelines. The loosened iron deposits provide a brownish-hue to the water, but the water is still safe for consumption.
