Portland Police have arrested a man they believe is the suspect in the robbery and sexual assault of a woman Monday morning in Northeast Portland.
Monday evening, officers responded to a violent attack in a garage in the Sullivan's Gulch neighborhood.
The received additional information that the male suspect was armed with a knife and that he assaulted a female.
Officers arrived in the area, located the victim and the suspect ran from police. Based on the information received and observations of the officers, officers chased the man on foot through the neighborhood and several residences before capturing him in a neighborhood apartment.
The victim and the suspect, 31-year-old Sergio Martinez, were transported to Portland hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries. Martinez was released earlier today and transported to jail.
He is charged with robbery and sexual assault of a woman in the 1700 block of Northeast Irving Street.
The 65-year-old female victim told police that a stranger broke in to her residence, physically and sexually assaulted her, and stole her car.
Martinez was booked into jail on charges of Robbery in the First Degree, Kidnap in the First Degree, and Assault in the Second Degree. Additionally, detectives linked Martinez to an attack reported earlier Monday morning a few blocks away in the Kerns Neighborhood. In connection with that case, Martinez was booked into jail on charges of Robbery in the First Degree, Burglary in the First Degree, Sodomy in the First Degree, and Sex Abuse in the First Degree.
