Late Monday night, the Portland Police Bureau's Air Support Unit reported receiving numerous laser strikes from the area of Southeast 90th Place and Victor Lane. The Air Support Unit was flying patrol support at the time of the laser strikes.
Officers responded to the area and determined that a 12-year-old child, playing with a laser pointer, was responsible for the strike. The officers contacted the child and family and explained the danger of pointing a laser at aircraft. The laser pointer was placed into evidence and the police reports were forwarded to the Multnomah County Juvenile Court.
Aiming a laser at an aircraft is a serious safety concern for pilots and is a violation of law.
