Portland-Vancouver Transit Fare System Launches

Hop Fastpass is the new ticket to ride transit in the Portland-Vancouver areaThe electronic fare system launched Monday.

It allows riders seamless access to TriMet, C-TRAN, or Portland Streetcar services. With a symple tap of a Hop card or contact less bank card, riders can pay for their trips on TriMet buses and trains, C-TRAN buses and Vine, and on Portland Streetcar.

Once riders reach the cost of a day pass, rides are free for the rest of the day. And the same goes for the month - once the cost of a month pass is reached, rides are free for the rest of the month.

TriMet says you will want to tap your card every time to also save money. If you forget to tap, you won't earn the rides that will get you to a month pass.

If you're worried about your card getting lost or stolen, registered cardholders have lost-card protection to safeguard the card's balance. Travel data is collected anonymously and will never be sold to a third party.

Cards are available for $3 at transit offices and retail stores, including Fred Meyer and Safeway. Riders can load their cards with cash in stores or link to their debit or credit card accounts using the Hop mobile app, at myhopcard.com, or by calling 1-844-MYHOPCARD.
