Homemade Sting Gets Stolen Gear Back

When Steven Graves' daughter had two saddles and several bridles stolen from a barn she started watching for sale lists on the Internet.

She found someone selling the gear on Craigslist.

Graves called the Cowlitz Sheriff's Office on July 11th and reported that he had seen the stolen tack on Craig's list and had contacted the woman who placed the add. The suspect, not knowing she was talking with the victims, agreed to meet in the Woodland area to sell the items.

Deputy Landen Jones worked with Graves to be in the area when the suspect showed up. The suspect, Janet Y. Hemenway 47 years of age from Longview, showed up as planned. She had the stolen saddles and tack that Graves recognized as his daughter's tack. Hemenway was arrested. She admitted that she had stolen the items.

Hemenway was arrested for Burglary 2nd degree (Felony); Trafficking in Stolen Property 1st Degree (Felony); Possession of Stolen Property 2nd degree (Felony).
