Hillsboro Police have released new details about the attempted theft of a helicopter Monday.
The suspect, 25-year-old Holden Gorka, was wearing a hoody and a mask when he jumped the security fence at Hillsboro Airport. He was armed with a gun when he tried to steal a small two seat helicopter. A pilot and passenger were inside of the helicopter when Gorka threatened them with a gun. He fired the gun into a nearby field to force them out.
A Hillsboro Police sergeant arrived and Gorka was in the cockpit apparently trying to start the helicopter. Gorka ran and shots were fired killing Gorka.
Police say Gorka does not have a permanent residence. Toxicology tests are pending. Detectives have not found a history of mental health issues or substance abuse.
Gorka does not have a connection with the Hillsboro Aero Academy which owns the helicopter.
Detectives are still working to determine the motive.
