At 7:37 Friday morning Engine 1 from the Hillsboro Main Station was dispatched to a car fire at Tuality Hospital. Firefighters arrived to find heavy black smoke coming from the 3rd floor on the south-west corner of the four story parking structure.
A Jeep Cherokee was fully engulfed in flames. When they pulled their charged hose to the location of the fire they discovered that a car parked next to the Jeep was also fully engulfed.
The fire was quickly extinguished, but both vehicles are a total loss.
A few other vehicles parked near the fire suffered minor damage.
During an interview with fire investigators, Tuality Health Plan Coordinator, Sharon Naidu
reported that she arrived for work around 7:35 a.m. She parked her 2016 Jeep Cherokee on the 3rd floor of the parking garage. While getting out of the car she heard a popping sound and saw smoke coming from under the vehicle. Naidu immediately contacted Tuality security who arrived in moments to her location. Quickly realizing that they were unequipped to do anything to extinguish the rapidly building car fire they evacuated the parking area.
Hillsboro Fire investigators are in the process of interviewing additional witnesses and working the fire scene to determine the cause of the fire. No injuries were reported.
