Pay-By-Plate Coming To Portland Parking Meters

Say goodbye to parking meter paper receipts. The Portland Bureau of Transportation is introducing pay-by-plate in the Central Eastside and Northwest parking districts.

John Brady with P-BOT, says you just key in your license plate number, pay for parking, and that’s it. There are no receipt tickets you have to put in your vehicle.

But not all meters will be activated with pay-by-plate. Brady says they’re doing a pilot run and if they get positive feedback from customers, they’ll start activating more of the new meters. Downtown Portland meters will not be pay-by-plate.

When the installations are complete on July 21st, pay-by-plate will be available on 63 meters in Central Eastside and 73 in Northwest Portland.

Along with the recently introduced Parking Kitty app, the start of pay-by-plate is a part of the bureau’s effort to use technology to make it easier and more convenient for customers to park in Portland’s meter districts.
