Drugs Found Hidden In Secret Compartments

On the morning of Friday, May 12, a joint team of investigators from the Portland Police Bureau Drugs and Vice Division and the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office Special Investigations Unit stopped an SUV traveling on I-205 for a traffic violation. While investigating that traffic violation they found 82 Xanax tablets in a plastic baggie, approximately one pound of methamphetamine, and a .45 caliber handgun inside the vehicle.

Two arrests were made in connection to the traffic stop, 24 year old Ruben Corranza and 23 year old Domingo Lopez-Carranza, both residents of California. Each was charged with Possession and Distribution of a Controlled Substance and lodged at the Multnomah County Detention Center.

The vehicle was impounded and the joint investigative team applied for, and received, a warrant to search the vehicle the suspects had been driving. Later the same afternoon, the vehicle was searched and an additional six pounds of methamphetamine was discovered in multiple hidden compartments.

The wholesale (supplier to dealer) value of the methamphetamine seized is approximately $28,000. The street (dealer to end-user) value of the methamphetamine is approximately $180,000.

Sheriff Mike Reese commented, "Today's drug seizure highlights the value of working in collaboration to ensure dangerous drugs are kept off our streets."
