21-year-old Daniel Mellers went missing from George Fox College in Newberg Saturday night when he told friends he was going to buy a soda at a store.
Police pinged his cell phone which showed it was in Sherwood. Police searched the area, but couldn't find him.
Monday night, a Sherwood resident contacted Sherwood Police after recognizing Mellers' vehicle and Colorado License Plate.
Newberg Police Detectives responded to SW Houston Drive near SW Spratlin Lane to meet with Sherwood officers.
Officers from both agencies then canvased the neighborhood looking for any information regarding Daniel or his vehicle.
After the canvas, detectives were able to get the vehicle unlocked and unfortunately located Mellers in the trunk. Based on the details learned during this investigation, detectives say they are confident Daniel took his own life and there is no threat to the public.
