Fire Station Damaged By Fire

The Clackamas Fire District station in Damascus is temporarily closed, because of a fire.

Sunday morning, firefighters smelled smoke and found an electrical fire in the attic.

Portland General Electric crews say the fire was caused by a blossoming cherry tree that was nearby. The roots had pushed a live line into the neutral line causing a short.

Clackamas Fire began fully staffing Station 19 24-hours per day on February 27, 2017. Had the on-duty crews not been onsite, the damage would have been much more extensive.

Clackamas Fire says service will not be affected. Contingency plans are already in place to begin to repair the fire station and return it to operational status. Station 19 is closed for fire district and community use at this time. It is unknown how long the closure will be in place.

While it is rare to have a fire in a fire station, emergencies can happen anywhere and at anytime. Clackamas Fire would like to remind everyone to check and install smoke detectors on every floor of your home as well as outside of every bedroom.
