On Sunday afternoon, Central Precinct officers responded to the 8400 block of Southwest Macadam Avenue on the report that hikers discovered some bones off a trail on the west side of Macadam Avenue.
Officers arrived and contacted the hikers who led them to the bones, which were up the trail a ways from Macadam Avenue in the River View Natural Area.
Based on an initial investigation, the bones appear to be human so Homicide detectives, Criminalists from the Forensic Evidence Division, and the Oregon State Medical Examiner have responded to the scene to conduct a death investigation.
At this point, there is no determination of age, race, or sex of the remains, or if there has been any criminal activity.
The remains will be transported by the Medical Examiner to the Oregon State Police Crime Lab for further examination.
