Thursday morning, a Sheriff's Deputy responded to the report of an erratic driver in a large RV on Sauvie Island. The deputy located the vehicle a short time later and attempted to pull the vehicle over. The driver refused to stop and led the deputy on a chase onto Cornelius Pass Road.

After traveling up Cornelius Pass Road from Highway 30 approximately three miles, the driver came to a stop. After stopping, the driver of the RV placed the vehicle in reverse and began backing down Cornelius Pass Road ramming the deputy's patrol car as well as a Portland Police car who had responded to the scene, and several other cars that were on the road.

The driver of the RV hid inside the vehicle and refused the deputy's repeated orders to come out. After an approximately 20 minute standoff, deputies were able to convince the driver to surrender and he was taken into custody.

The occupants of one of the vehicles sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital by ambulance. No injuries were sustained by either the suspect or responding law enforcement personnel during the incident.

The driver of the RV was identified as 38 year old Shawn Wheeler of Markesan, WI. Wheeler was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Attempt to Elude and a Fugitive Warrant.
