Fire Truck Hit By Falling Tree

Vancouver Fire Department's Truck 1 was eastbound on Mill Plain Blvd west of E. Reserve, responding to a medical emergency Friday, when it was struck by a falling tree.

Only the tiller driver who steers the rear of the truck saw it coming and tried to warn the rest of the crew.

The tree, which was approximately three to four feet in diameter at the base, struck the front of the cab.

The truck's inertia propelled it through the branches and trunk, pushing in both windshields and breaking out windows on the passenger side before the truck ran over the top of the fallen tree.

Broken glass filled the cab, but the crew sustained no injuries.
