Early Tuesday morning, Clackamas Fire District #1 and the Oregon City Police Department received a report the play structure at Park Place Park was on fire. A homeowner near the park saw the fire and reported it. No one was seen near or around the fire.
Clackamas Fire District #1 was able to extinguish the fire before it damaged the entire play structure or spread to nearby trees. Based on the location of the fire, investigators and police determined the fire was intentionally set. Damage to the play structure is estimated over $1,000.
Oregon City Police and Clackamas Fire District #1 are also investigating whether this fire is related to two similar fires, which occurred in the middle of March in a nearby new housing development. On March 13th at about 1:50 a.m. and March 14th at about 5:43 a.m., portable outhouses were found on fire near Samson Place. These two fires were determined to be intentionally set. Fire investigators and police are investigating these two fires.
Anyone who has information about the fires or has information about who is responsible for setting the fires are asked to call the Oregon City Police Department tip line at 503-496-1616 or the Clackamas Fire District #1 Fire Prevention Office at 503-742-2660.
