The price at the pump is at 30 to 60 cents per gallon higher than it was a year ago, and it’s about to get even higher.
With that being a pretty hefty increase, AAA did a survey which shows a quarter of Americans think gas is already too high. AAA projects the national average will increase 40 cents more by this summer, peaking at $2.70.
Marie Dodds, with AAA Oregon/Idaho, says average in Oregon is also expected to go up 40 more cents, which means the price of gas will climb to over $3 per gallon, the highest it’s been since August 2015.
Dodds says they found a lot of drivers are willing to make lifestyle or driving habit changes to adjust to the rising costs, but not everyone.
The survey finds drivers 34 years old and younger are more tolerant of higher prices and more willing to change habits compared to drivers 35 and older.
But overall, Dodds says they found about 70% of drivers would make those changes to offset the increase in gas prices.
The top five changes include combining errands or trips, driving less, reducing shopping or dining out, delaying major purchases and carpooling.
