The first in a series of TriMet Max train switch machine upgrades starts Saturday night going into Sunday morning.
Switch machines move the trackwork that directs trains from one set of tracks to another. If electrical switch machines malfunction, they have to be operated manually, which causes MAX delays.
Roberta Altstadt, Public Information Officer for TriMet, says the switch that’s being replaced is just west of the Gateway Transit Center. Max trains will travel in both directions on the eastbound tracks, between the Gateway and Hollywood stations through 6 am Sunday morning.
From 6 am until 10 am, Blue and Green lines will be disrupted between Gateway and the Northeast 7th Avenue stations.
Riders should plan an extra 15-30 minutes for trips during these times.
