Portions of the former Red Lion hotel at the Port of Vancouver USA’s Terminal 1 will come down this month, with work starting as early as March 16.
Working daylight hours, Monday through Friday, crews will demolish and remove 113 rooms in the north and west wings. The port expects work to take approximately four weeks.
The north and west wings were built in the 1970s and encroach on the footprint of the future hotel planned by the port’s developer, Vesta Hospitality.
Demolition is not expected to impact drivers on Columbia Way or visitors to the WareHouse ’23 restaurant or event space in the eastern portion of the facility. Daytime visitors can expect truck traffic, and a section of the south sidewalk along Columbia Way is closed for pedestrian safety.
The former Red Lion hotel closed in October 2015. WareHouse ’23 opened in the former Quay Restaurant in July 2016, and the port and restaurant have been keeping the area vibrant as redevelopment plans for Terminal 1 are finalized.
The port is now moving through the Concept Development Plan (CDP) application process – the City of Vancouver’s process to review and approve the master plan for the entire Terminal 1 site.
The application is open for public comment until March 17. It is expected to go before the City Hearings Examiner on May 4, and the City Council in June.
The port expects to receive CDP application approval this summer.
