Private Music Teacher Indicted For Sex Crimes

On Monday February 27, 2017, 68-year-old Thara John Memory, a private music teacher, was arraigned in Multnomah County Court after a grand jury indicted him on numerous counts of sex abuse and other charges.

After arraignment, Memory was booked and released from the Multnomah County Jail on the indictment charges of Sex Abuse in the Third Degree (eight counts), Attempted Sex Abuse in the Third Degree (two counts) and Harassment.

Portland Police Bureau Sex Crimes Unit detectives began an investigation into Memory after receiving a complaint in September 2016 about Memory's conduct with a student. Through that investigation, detectives learned of additional victims and different incidents going back to 2014. The investigation found that Memory's victims include both juvenile and adult female victims.

Portland Police Bureau Sex Crimes Unit detectives believe there may be additional victims that have not contacted police. Any victims of Memory's behavior or anyone with information about additional victims is asked to contact Detective Jeff Myers at 503-823-0595, jeff.myers@portlandoregon.gov.
