On January 31, 2017, a Washington County Sheriff's Detective took a report of a Tigard woman who had begun receiving text messages from an unknown person, later identified as Sean Spaulding age 21 of Beaverton. The text messages contained nude photos of the victim, which were clearly taken without her knowledge using a hidden camera.
Spaulding was allegedly trying to blackmail the victim into sending more explicit images. He threatened to post the images on social media and send them to the victim's family.
During the investigation another victim was discovered from an incident in June, 2016. In that incident, detectives learned Spaulding had tricked a juvenile female victim into sending nude photos of herself to him. The investigation also uncovered instances of identity theft where Spaulding posed as a Portland woman online to attempt to obtain additional nude images of other women.
The suspect, Sean Spaulding was arrested on February 15, 2017. Friday, a Washington County grand jury returned a 10 count indictment against Spaulding for crimes including Invasion of Personal Privacy I, Encouraging Child Sex Abuse in the Second Degree (two counts), Identity Theft, Computer Crime (two counts), Coercion and Attempted Coercion (two counts).
The Sheriff's Office believes there may be more victims and is asking anyone with information to contact the Washington County Sheriff's Office at 503-629-0111.
