Several dozen protesters shut down the meeting at City Hall Wednesday, calling for the resignation of Mayor Ted Wheeler.
Activists want a response from Mayor Wheeler on Portland Police Bureau’s treatment of protesters, housing the homeless, and the Mayor “allowing the death by cops of innocent black children.”
But the Mayor wasn’t at the council meeting due to jury duty, so Commissioner Chloe Eudaly ran the meeting.
Right after the meeting got underway, protesters started chanting “Quanice, say his name,” referring to the robbery suspect who was fatally shot by police, 17-year-old Quanice Hayes.
Demonstrators disrupted the meeting, forcing Eudaly to call a recess. The council meeting was put on hold for about an hour. The activists eventually left on their own.
