The Portland Police Bureau made one arrest on Thursday evening during a protest event that disrupted traffic in Downtown Portland.
19-year-old Zachary P. Lange was arrested on a charge of Riot after an interaction with a motorist on Southwest 3rd Avenue. Lange was not arrested immediately after the commission of the crime but was arrested later as the protest march neared an end.
Lange was booked into the Multnomah County Jail and will be arraigned on Friday.
The protest started and ended in the South Park Blocks but affected Downtown traffic for a couple of hours and there were some reports of minor vandalism and heated interactions with drivers unable to move in the roadway.
Protests generally do not require any permit from the City of Portland; however, any event held in the street and/or sidewalk, such as runs, walks, marches, parades or bicycle races must have a permit granted by the City of Portland. Additionally, event organizers are encouraged to work with the City of Portland to ensure a safe event for participants and non-participants.
