Replica guns were used by suspects in two Portland officer involved shootings on Thursday.
Portland Police say 17-year-old Quanice Hayes was killed and 56-year-old Don Perkins was wounded.
Hayes was shot Thursday morning when police were searching for a suspect in an armed robbery near the Value Inn on Northeast 82nd Avenue.
Perkins was shot Thursday night. Police had responded to a report of a suicidal man who was armed. Officers from the Crisis Intervention Team were trying to talk with Perkins when the shooting happened.
Investigations continue into the circumstances that led to both shootings. Details aren't being released at this time.
Both cases will be presented to a Grand Jury and the Police Review Board.
Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler urged people against rushing to judgement. Wheeler said "Anytime there's a shooting, that's concerning. When it's an officer involved shooting that involved a death, it's even more so."
Wheeler said, "When the person who is killed is a black teenager it tapes into deep historical wounds."
Police Chief Mike Marshman promised a thorough investigation into both shootings.
