Portland Police detained two men who drove by a Portland rally waving a gun.
It happened Monday at 12:28 p.m. after a community member flagged down police at Terry Schrunk Plaza in Downtown Portland to report that the passenger in a pick-up truck displayed a handgun as the driver passed a peaceful demonstration in the park.
Officers in the area located the vehicle circling the area and conducted a high-risk traffic stop of the driver and passenger in the vehicle at Southwest 4th Avenue and Salmon Street. Both the driver and passenger were taken into custody without incident.
Inside the truck, officers located the handgun, which turned out to be a replica firearm (BB gun). Additionally, officers located an unloaded AR-15 style rifle that belonged to the driver. There were no reports that the driver displayed the rifle during this incident.
After further investigation, the driver was released without charges; however, the rifle was taken for safekeeping. The driver will be able to retrieve the gun at a later time.
The passenger, 20-year-old Sergey E. Antonov of Battle Ground, Washington, was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on a charge of Disorderly Conduct in the Second Degree.
