Richards Sentenced For Child Sexual Abuse

An Oregon City man convicted by a Clackamas County jury earlier this month on 10 counts of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree was sentenced to 10 years in prison Friday.

Roy Allen Richards, 64, was initially charged with multiple counts of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree after law enforcement learned he had sexually abused a 7-year-old child.

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office obtained an initial report from the victim's family on July 13, 2016. After learning the crimes occurred in Oregon City, the investigation was turned over to detectives at the Oregon City Police Department. During the course of their investigation, no additional victims were identified and authorities have no reason to believe there are any other victims.

Oregon City Police forwarded the case to the Clackamas County District Attorney's Office for prosecution.

In early January, Richards was found guilty of Sex Abuse in the First Degree and on Friday, Richards was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Sexual Abuse in the First Degree is a Class B Felony and is a Ballot Measure 11 Offense, carrying a mandatory minimum sentence of 75 months in prison.
