A federal judge in Portland has issued a preliminary injunction that stops troops from being deployed in the city.

Judge Karin Immergut issued the injunction Sunday night, just hours before a Temporary Restraining Order was due to expire.

The decision comes after a three-day trial last week when lawyers for the Trump Administration argued troops are needed to allow federal agents to do their job at Portland’s ICE building.

Attorneys for the city and state claim local and federal law enforcement have kept ongoing protests in check by making numerous arrests.

The injunction expires at 5 p.m. Friday, to allow the court time to issue a final decision.
