New Vehicle Registration Fee Coming To Clackamas County

People who live in Clackamas County will soon see a new fee when they renew their vehicle registrations or purchase and register a new vehicle.

The Clackamas County Board of Commissioners adopted a county vehicle registration fee in February 2019. DMV will collect the new fee on behalf of Clackamas County.

For more information on how the county will invest revenue from the new fee, visit the county’s site at https://www.clackamas.us/transportation/crf.

The new fee will take effect for renewals and new registrations beginning Jan. 1, 2020. DMV mails renewal reminders about six weeks prior to a vehicle’s renewal date, so some vehicle owners will begin to see the new fee in November.

The fee is based on the vehicle renewal date, not when the fee is paid, so the fee cannot be waived by paying before Jan. 1, 2020.

Clackamas County’s registration fee is $30 per year for most vehicles such as passenger cars, so the program will add a total of $60 to the typical two-year registration fee.

Custom plates and specialty license plate fees also apply to customers with those options. For motorcycles and mopeds, the county fee will be $15 per year.
