As the MVP of the 1977 NBA Finals, Bill Walton would often ride his bike to home games at Veterans Memorial Coliseum while fans would sit on their porches to wave to him and wish him luck – he even rode his bike to the championship parade. Take a bike ride down memory lane and Bike With Bill and the Trail Blazers, powered by Biofreeze, as they ride a portion of the Portland Bureau of Transportation Sunday Parkways Green Loop, ending with a special announcement and live music from Grateful Dead Cover Band Garcia Birthday Band at Terry Schrunk Plaza, where the 1977 championship parade concluded.
Sunday Parkways, Portland’s largest biking event, attracts over 30,000 local residents through the Rose Quarter campus. Fans will bring their own bikes and ride together to tip off our 50th Anniversary season.
The Trail Blazers have teamed up with Biofreeze to provide event participants with the chance to enter a giveaway sweepstakes to win one of five Blazers decaled bikes. Also, fans everywhere can enter via a social media promotion for a chance to Win Walton’s Bike – a special Trail Blazers branded Beach Cruiser with unique retro design to celebrate the 50th signed by Bill.
The event includes:
- Trail Blazers Alumni Bill Walton
- Trail Blazers Founding Broadcaster Bill Schonely
- Trail Blazers Studio Host Jordan Kent
