A truck carrying asphalt overturned near Silverton on Silver Falls Highway near Quall Road Monday morning.
Both truck and trailer were hauling hot asphalt which spilled onto the road and down the embankment. The total amount of asphalt spilled was approximately 40 tons. Additionally, about 20 gallons of diesel had spilled onto the roadway.
To reduce the impact on the environment, fire crews worked quickly to contain the diesel and Silverton Public Works and the Truck Company worked together to scoop up the asphalt while it was still to clear the roadway quickly.
The driver of the truck was checked by Fire and Woodburn Ambulance personnel and was transported to a hospital.
An investigation continues into the cause of the crash.
