2019 Girl Scout Leadership Day In Oregon

Oregon Governor Kate Brown Proclaims March 12th as 2019 Girl Scout Leadership Day at the state Capitol.

Karen Hill, CEO of Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington, says Girl Scout Leadership Day is part of the G.I.R.L Agenda, which is a nonpartisan initiative to inspire, prepare and mobilize girls to lead positive change through civic action.

Over 200 Girl Scouts and more than 100 adult members convened at Oregon's Capitol to meet Governor Brown and Oregon legislators. They also participated in activities and workshops to earn citizen-themed badges, learn about law making, and be inspired by prominent women leaders including Oregon Supreme Court Justice Adrienne Nelson and Labor Commissioner Val Hoyle.

Hill says the Girl Scouts are amazed at how accessible Oregon's Capitol is and how they feel they really can make a difference. Hill says local Girl Scouts have actually passed legislation in to law, including a Good Samaritan Law, which allows someone to break into a vehicle to save a child or animal without penalty.

Governor Brown was inducted as a lifetime Girl Scout in 2018, and says Girl Scouts empowers generations of girls and women to make a difference and have their voices heard.

March 12th also marks the 107th anniversary of Girl Scouts of the USA.
