Vancouver Police were called to a disturbance at an apartment complex around 11 p.m. Tuesday.
The apartments are located in the 1200 block of SE Ellsworth Road.
Witnesses reported that two men were involved in some type of altercation in the parking lot and that both were possibly armed.
When officers arrived, they encountered one of the males who was armed with a knife. He refused commands to drop his weapon.
One officer discharged his weapon, shooting the suspect. The man was transported to an area hospital for evaluation and medical treatment.
Police say the suspect, a 16 year old boy, died of his injuries.
The officer involved has been put on critical incident leave.
