The Hillsboro Fire Department responded to a residential fire on SE Brookwood Avenue south of Witch Hazel Road Thursday afternoon.
Firefighters on Engine 2 arrived to find three residents and the family dog safely outside the two level home.
As firefighters made their way around the back of the house they saw fire and smoke venting out of a second floor window and fire on the covered back deck.
As additional personnel arrived firefighters worked to extinguish the fire inside house and on the deck while others searched the house and cut an opening in the roof to allow heat and smoke to escape.
Due to extensive damage to the structure, the family will not be able to stay in the house.
The Red Cross has secured short term lodging for the family and will assist with replacing essentials lost in the fire.
Four Hillsboro Fire Department units and one Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue unit responded to the fire. No injuries were reported. Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
