The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit found a wanted subject, 36-year-old Vasile Manta, in a pickup truck in the parking lot of a Burger King restaurant on Southeast Washington Street at 100th Avenue Monday afternoon.
Manta put the truck into reverse and rammed the deputy’s car and the deputy fired at the subject. Manta was critically wounded and taken to a hospital.
No other injuries occurred during the incident.
The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, Portland Police and the Multnomah County District Attorney are investigating.
The deputy who fired the shots is on paid administrative leave during the investigation.
Manta was booked on two outstanding arrest warrants for the charges of Attempted Aggravated Murder and Identity Theft.
