Portland Police were called to the Kohl's store located at 10010 Northeast Halsey Street on a report of a robbery in progress where the suspect brandished a firearm at loss prevention employees before leaving the store.
Officers arrived and confronted the suspect outside near Fred Meyer located at 1111 Northeast 102nd Avenue. The suspect did not comply and ran into Fred Meyer. Officers evacuated the store and set up containment in the area.
The Special Emergency Response Team and negotiators responded to the location to assist.
The suspect was taken into custody and a loaded firearm was recovered. He has been identified as 34-year-old Tommy Lee Brown Jr.
Several nearby businesses went into lockdown and others closed early. The Police Bureau thanked the community for their patience and their cooperation as officers worked to apprehend the suspect.
