Fishing Boat Crew Member Injured By Crane Hook

The Coast Guard medically evacuated an injured crew member off a commercial fishing vessel, 25 miles west of Brookings, Oregon, Monday morning.

A boat crew aboard a 47-foot Motor Life Boat from Station Chetco River safely conducted the medevac of the 64-year-old male aboard the fishing vessel Arctic Storm and transported him to shore for further medical care.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector North Bend received notification of an injured man from a crew member aboard the Arctic Storm at 9:55 a.m. The man reportedly suffered blunt force trauma to the face from a loose crane hook. The sector’s flight surgeon recommended an immediate medevac, so the 47-foot MLB crew was launched to assist.

The MLB crew stabilized the injured crew member and transferred him to awaiting emergency medical services. His current condition is unknown.
