The Long Hollow Fire burning south of the Dalles has scorched grown to 17,000 acres.

The fire broke out Thursday afternoon between Dufur and the Deschutes River around 4:30 p.m. and doubled in size overnight.

Level 3 (Go!) evacuation orders are in place along the Deschutes River from Sherars Falls to Macks Canyon.

It reached the Deschutes River, but hasn't crossed it.

The fire started along Long Hollow Market Street on Thursday.

It moved into the Deschutes River Canyon, in steep and dangerous terrain, so local fire crews pulled out and the Bureau of Land Management has taken over.

Officials say the fire has destroyed multiple structures.

Investigators say the fire may have been started by a combine, but the cause of it remains under investigation.
