A Portland Police officer was hurt Friday morning during a pursuit.

At 3:39 a.m., an officer assigned to the Portland Police Bureau's East Percent attempted to stop a 1989 red Jeep Comanche pickup near Southeast 100th Avenue and Southeast Holgate Boulevard after multiple officers observed the driver operating the Jeep recklessly.

An officer activated his emergency lights and sirens to perform a traffic stop on the Jeep and driver. The driver of the Jeep did not stop. The officer pursued the vehicle.

During the pursuit, officers deployed several pursuit intervention techniques to stop the driver and vehicle. Officers used spike strips and successfully flattened some of the vehicle's tires. Officers also attempted the PIT Maneuver; however, the subject was able to drive out of the PIT Maneuver.

Near the intersection of Southeast 72nd Avenue and Southeast Foster Road, officers attempted to stop the vehicle using a box-in, at which time the subject rammed two police vehicles. When the subject rammed the police vehicles an officer was injured.

Officers successfully boxed-in the vehicle, causing the vehicle to stop. Officers engaged the driver, gave him commands and took him into custody.

The suspect who attempted to elude police and rammed his vehicle into two police vehicles has been identified as 33-year-old Andrew D. Lentz. Lentz was lodged into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Attempt to Elude by Vehicle, Reckless Driving, four counts of Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree, and Fail to Perform the Duties of a Driver -- Property.

The officer was treated and released from the hospital.
