At 1:40 p.m. Friday, firefighters were called to a reported apartment fire at the Scholls Apartments, located in the 5100 block of SW Scholls Ferry Road in unincorporated Washington County.

Multiple callers to 911 were reporting smoke and flames from an upstairs apartment unit and could hear windows breaking.

Firefighters from Raleigh Hills Station 70, located just down the road from the complex, arrived within four minutes of dispatch and initiated an aggressive exterior fire attack. As additional units arrived on scene, firefighters transitioned to interior firefighting operations and began to search for possible victims.

Due to the size of the complex, and the involvement of four separate apartment units, the incident commander requested a second alarm to bring additional firefighting resources to the scene.

Firefighters battled the fire for over 40 minutes before the incident was declared under control. Crews were able to contain the fire to the initial involved units, with one apartment sustaining heavy fire damage, and an additional four units sustaining moderate smoke and water damage. There were no reported injuries, and all occupants made it out of the apartment complex safely.

TVF&R was assisted on scene by units from Portland Fire and Rescue, and Washington County Sheriff's Office. The American Red Cross is responding to assist approximately 9 displaced residents.
