Portland Police say preliminary information indicates that the male adult victim and the male adult suspect live in the same building, located on the southwest corner of Southwest 9th Avenue and Columbia Street.
Witnesses described a disturbance in the back parking lot of the building where the shooting occurred. The victim ran over to the Safeway store entrance at 10th Avenue and Columbia Street and waited inside for medical attention. He was transported to a Portland hospital with a leg injury.
Based on information from witnesses that the suspect ran back into the residential building, officers began the process of surrounding the building to contain the suspect. As this was underway, officers at Southwest 6th Avenue and Mill Street located the suspect who was also suffering a gunshot wound to a leg. Officers recovered a handgun from the suspect and he was transported to a Portland hospital for treatment.
Officers are investigating the possibility that the suspect accidentally shot himself in the leg.
There are indications that the dispute between the men may have been a robbery so Robbery detectives are investigating.
